The Peugeot 208 becomes official. Here all the details!
One of the most anticipated vehicles in recent months is the model for the segment B of Peugeot, the Peugeot 208 . We have been waiting for this renewal for some time and, although we knew that its official presentation was going to take place during the next Geneva Motor Show , after the filtering of images from last week they decided to make it public during this early morning, both the "normal" model and the electric Peugeot e-208.
The new generation of the Gallic utility has a lot to tell us, as it changes completely with respect to the predecessor model. It takes nothing more than to take a look at its aesthetics; although there is much more. In this article we will know every detail of the new Peugeot utility. Oh, and first of all, you know it will not arrive until next fall to the dealers.
Aesthetic inherited from its older brothers
As you can see in the images that accompany these letters, the new Peugeot 208 has used the brand design features that they are so fond of in the latest models launched on the market; especially the Peugeot 508.
mode, we find some LED front optics where three integrated lines appear in the lighthouse itself as a sign of the lion's claws. Below we can see an arched line of LED that will act as daylight, as in the aforementioned 508 (Peugeot 508 test). Also highlights the large surface of the front grille , as well as its interior screening.
In the lateral we find a design line where the pronounced wheel arches, which at least in the GT Line and GT finishing units come finished in glossy black. There are newly designed tires and the glazed surface seems to leave a good visibility to the driver in all directions.
The rear is also very interesting, as they have managed to integrate the style of the 508 lights drivers into a much smaller car and with a hatchaback rearguard. To my liking, they have solved it quite well and the result makes it really attractive; more so in the GT Line finish that we have in the images -the yellow car-. The two circular exhaust outlets provide a touch of distinction.
Very interesting and distinctive interior
The interior of the new Peugeot 208 is very, very worked. Arrives with the latest generation of the famous i-Cockpit driving position ; so there is no missing instrument panel that looks over the small flyer. In addition, now this picture can be totally digital and customizable, which significantly increases the feeling of quality of the car.
Then, to the right, we have the infotainment system , for which a screen of 5, 7 or 10 inches is used depending on the finished and the options chosen.According to the brand, the GT and GT Line finishes will come with Fars Full LED series, black wheel arch covers and window moldings, 17-inch wheels and a cabin with specific details such as black roof upholstery.
The images of the interior let us see that this new Peugeot 208 also uses the elegant lever for the automatic change seen in 508. And continuing through that central area, you see a generous gap slides, two holes to leave bottles or cans of soda and, unfortunately, enough surface finished in piano black.
Improvements in comfort of running
The Peugeot urbanite is built on the CMP platform , which is the platform for models of segments B and C. Play with the advantage that, being modular, they can be extract different dimensions and engines. In addition, it is adapted to different energy systems, since it can use thermal (gasoline or diesel) or electric engines.
The engineers and developers of this new product have achieved a lower weight, improve the aerodynamic, reduce the resistance to the rolling of the tires and internal mechanical friction in both axes and improve the overall efficiency of the car. The vibrations and noises that reach the interior have also been contained, improving acoustic comfort.
Four thermal and one electric motors
One of the novelties of the new model is that it receives a totally electric variant, which is called Peugeot e-208 . It will be available from the launch and its main letters are a 136 HP engine and 260 Nm, a 50 kWh battery located on the floor of the car and without affecting the capacity of the boot and 340 kilometers of autonomy in WLTP cycle.
In addition, the electric has three driving modes depending on the needs of each moment (with a Sport mode that makes the 0 to 100 in 8.1 seconds) and two selectable functions of regenerative braking, to make it softer or more consistent for practically no need to touch the brake pedal.
Regarding the heat engines , this 208 is available with a 1.2 PureTech gasoline in versions of 75, 100 and 130 CV . The first two carry manual change, the second can be associated optionally with an automatic transmission of 8 gears and the most powerful one necessarily comes with that same automatic box. The only diesel option, at least initially, is the BlueHDi 100 with a 6-speed manual transmission.
Security and attendants on the agenda
Security is one of the most important sections, if not the most. This French urbanite shows that safety systems and driving assistants are not just big vehicles.
